Penny's Rustic Blush & Cream Newborn Session
- Rockwall Texas Newborn Photographer, Angela Kim Photography -
When a glowing mama to be books a session with me, I like to ask for a photo of the nursery or get ideas of colors she wants me to design my sets around. This helps tie everything together when prints and other products are hung on the wall.
Below, I will post one photo from each of Penny's newborn setups. Each set contains at least 5 different photos taken at different perspectives and angles. In a full proofing gallery, you can expect to receive anywhere from 20-40 softly edited photos that you can choose your favorites from.
Having a baby girl, you can't go wrong with classic colors such as blush and cream. I love photographing muted, soft tones such as these. I find they hold a timeless look that never goes out of style. Just in time for Valentine's, this amazing heart shaped wood prop holds sweet Miss Penny so perfectly inside!
This wood bed is one of my favorites! It is so versatile because you can pose baby in a variety of ways. Here, I opted to put Penny on her tummy and have her adorable legs dangling off for a relaxed pose. I never want anything to look unnaturally forced, and for me, simplicity is always best! Using a wide angle lens, I am able to be close to keep one hand near her to take the shot in case Penny decides to flinch. Sometimes, I have a parent to spot baby, but mom and dad were comfortably snoozing on my couch :)
Oh, and I didn't mention that my amazing father in law built this bed for me with his bare hands. Yep, that's right! I painted it cream and added a little floral design on the front with some mode podge and craft paper. And can we just talk about how adorable that newborn sized pillow is?!
Over the years, I have created a workflow to help me move from one set to the next with minimal disturbance of baby. Not every session goes the same, so sometimes I like to switch things up just based on how sleepy baby is. I decided to put Penny in an outfit from the very start as seen in the two sets above. because she came pretty sleepy. Then I moved on to the wrapped portion. After a quick feeding, I was able to get her back to sleep with this wrap. It really knocks babies out by creating a comforting cocoon for them to just snooze away. Here is where I can create a handful of looks with different wraps and props in a relatively short amount of time! Keep scrolling to see the variety I get with 2 different wraps and a handful of set ups :)
I ended the session using the "beanbag". Here, I drape a beautiful fabric across my newborn beanbag poser made specifically for posing babies. The main image at the top of this post is one example as well as the vertical shot just above.
Eventually babies do wake up if I begin to unwrap them which definitely disrupts their sleepy slumber. But this is when I get the golden awake photos with lots of facial expressions! Enjoy!!!
